THE EGYPTIAN ARABIAN HORSE - BREEDING THE ARABIAN HORSE VOLUME I BY PHILLIPE PARASKEVAS
“Who is responsible for the current state of the Egyptian Arabian horse in Egypt? In a nutsell, the market is. In equal measure perhaps, so is the Egyptian breeders’ reaction to the market’s predictable influence.” Philippe Paraskevas is an Egyptian of Greek origin who has been a serious breeder of Egyptian Arabians for over 25 years. He founded the stud farms of El Ateya and Hoor el Eyoun in the countryside at the edge of the desert. The breeding programs of these farms are geared toward preservation breeding, while also striving to develop a distinctive identity by the exclusive use of their own group of stallions of EAO origins. Building on his in-depth study and analysis of the history of the Arabian, he is attempting to breed in a way that preserves what he views as the horse as “a national treasure” to be honored for its spirit, character, and athletic ability as well as its beauty. He is a strong proponent of an alternative breeding programme for the Egyptian Arabian. Hardback, 232pp, illustrated.
